Ivan Illich, the philosopher and social critic has written - Demolition/Erasure can be taken as the operative term for societies like ours (North America), societies that exist in indiscreet space. Illich tells us that such condition cannot be compared with that which existed previously: pre-industrial society could not have existed in such a homogeneous space. The distinction between the outside and the inside - the circle, of the body, of the city was for them the logical construct of all experience.
The dialect between the exterior and the interior, of right and left, of male and female, was a root experience. Indiscreet space, homogenous space, which is the space of the present, is something else. It transcends this dialectical distinction. It constitutes a continuum that is neither interior not exterior, neither right nor left. In societies situated in this geometrical continuum, the “exterior” and the “interior” are simply regions or areas, or territories selected from the same expanse.

PASSIVE DESIGN STRATEGIES:

Daylight
provides ambient lighting throughout north glazing
Passive Solar
extensive south glazing admits winter sun, shading devices reject summer sun
Natural Ventilation
allows breezes to flow through operable windows
Stormwater Catchment Basin
diteins stormwater runoff
Pitched Roof
directs rainwater into water features and catchment basin
Living Machine
processes greywater using plants
Edible Garden
allows residents to grow food at home
